Announcing the introduction of the IDM LSU MkIII Local storage unit... no moving parts - fit and forget!
May 23, 2011
Prepared by David Cole, Product Manager
"The MkII LSU in use with IDM systems for many years is now obsolete. Going forward we shall be replacing this device with a MkIII version offering the same functionality with enhanced reliability."
Features:
- No cooling fans means no unexpected temperature rises when fans fail or filters block and no forced ingress of dust that can form an insulating layer over key components and result in overheating
- Improved software that reduces the read/write cycles by 360:1 to reduce wear on the storage media
- Software upgrade via USB memory stick
- Option for dial up modem (with surge protection) or X.21 interface
- LSU MkIII LSU HDD version uses a 24/7 rated hard drive – minimum size 160 GB
- LSU MkIII SSD (solid state drive) version stores data on a 32 GB flash drive with fail over to a 16 GB compact flash
- 15 days of continuous slow scan (CSS) storage – standard for most requirements. Longer periods are available on request with the HDD version
- Less rack space required – 2U instead of 3U – depth 343mm (13.5 inches)
The MkIII has been designed for reliability. The HDD version is significantly better than the MkII as the fans have been removed and the wear on the HDD greatly reduced.
